After reading about your saga for awhile now, it is nice to hear that things worked out. Something tells me you'll end up keeping him! (no pressure) Anyway.. it all sounds very happy at your place now. Are you going to rename Habib now that he is a "she"?

: I can't stop looking at him! He's so beautiful! The "Petco iguana" is right here, next to me, basking on a warm log with his head on his new pillow I made him, FINALLY getting some UV rays!
: As it just so happened, the vet--the same one I had go in and examine him at Petco last month was there at the store today doing cat and dog shots. I had her do a once-over on the iguana before I brought him home, and it turns out that SHE is a HE! So, Habib, who has a male name, and who we thought was a male for two years is a SHE, and the Petco Iguana, who we thought all along was a SHE is really a HE! Gosh, why can't they just have boobs? It'd be so much easier that way... LOL

: Anyway his belly is full of yummy collard greens, (he doesn't seem to know what the other foods are. I've offered him three kinds of orange squash, peas, blueberries, summer squash, and raspberries but he'd have none of it. All he wants are his collards.) and he had a long warm bath. I had to soak off all the old crud off his vent and belly, and he's already starting to shed his old flaky dark brown skin. He was so dried out!

: At first, he was terrified of the water, and climbed straight up my leg to get away from it. After settling on my head, he thought he was safe, but oh no! I wrestled him back into the tub--and I have the scratches to proove it! (I'll look like I was jumped in an alley tomorrow morning at church!) :) He did something that Beebers (Habib) has never done before, so I didn't know quite how to react: He dove underneath the water and stayed completely submerged for over three minutes. I finally started to get scared and I got him out. He seems fine, and I'm guessing that that was just his way of letting me know he wanted to be left alone in the tub. A sort of denial of my existence maybe?

: Anyway, after his bath we fed him and I held him like a baby. He just laid there in his warm towel, looking contented. He's really a snuggly baby--a lot more so than Habib. I know that this could be due to the fact that he's weak from lack of nutrition (lettuce and no UV lighting for several months can do that to a fellow!) and that when he is well and fat, he might be a rather fiesty guy. But still, there was something very satisfying about holding him to my body and feeling him breathe in my warmth. I felt so much love for him as he lay in my arms and let me hold him. How can people mistreat these wonderful creatures?

: As far as his temperment goes, he doesn't act scared around us at all, and is looking mighty dozey right now on his branch. I wonder if he's dreaming that he died and went to heaven. He sure does look happy.

: I feel great! I still don't know if financially I'll be able to end up keeping him in the end, especially if I was able to hear of another home that I thought might even be better for him than mine is (I can't afford a cage for him right now, and so he's only in temporary housing). But at least for now, he's my new baby. We're so excited to have him, and so grateful again for all your help, support, ideas, and friendship.

: Going to get the Costco sized crock of neosporin for all my scratches now....
: Diana, Habib, and the New Arrival...
