: Congrats on the new Cyclura!! You will not be disappointed with your new addition. I just brought home my 4th and they are totally awesome creatures. They tend to be pretty flightly at this young age, and almost always POOP on you when you first get them out of their enclosures!! Be assured this will stop after a while. LOL My oldest, a Rhino, is a freeroamer and a real sweetie. One piece of advice.....the more room you can give them the faster and easier they will calm and tame down. You are going to have one magnificent companion for a long long time. May I ask where you got her? And you are absolutely right about the Cyclura forum....it's pretty dull. Welcome back!!
My baby came from a private breeder in Miami. He/she is the progeny of animals originally from Sam Pascucci of the Florida Iguana and Tortoise Breeders. Unfortunately, that is all I know about his/her history at this time. I'm hoping to get some pictures of the parents in the near future. I've been told they are both BIG animals with light blue-grey coloration (rumored to be very impressive). If you happen to know anything about this bloodline I'd be thrilled to hear it! I don't have any aspirations involving breeding. My little guy is destined to be nothing more (or less) than a cherished pet, but I'd still like to know all I can about his history.
I really enjoyed your pics and your names are great! I'm thinking of calling my baby "Argos," after Ulysses' loyal hound in Homer's The Odyssey. (sorry if you already know the story but here's a brief summary) Argos managed to persist despite age and neglect until Ulysses returned. When Ulysses entered his city in disguise, Argos was the only one who recognized him. Seeing his dog brought tears to Ulysses' eyes and soon thereafter Argos died, content at having seen his master at long last.
This is my favorite part of the story. I think it captures the essence of the special bond that can exist between man and beast. I'm hoping that my rhino and I will someday share a special relationship and therefore thought this name would be suitable. Of course, since my baby is pretty flighty and well practiced at the poop trick you previously mentioned, perhaps something in reference to feces would be more suitable for the time being! Ha Ha! But seriously, how long have you had your rhino? You said he/she was your oldest and free-roaming. Allowing my rhino to free roam is my ultimale goal. Is yours "house-trained?" If so, what method did you use, and when did you begin? Thanks!!!
Later.
