Discussing the issue with my Vet, I was informed that Vets are finding out that it may not be good to treat iguanas to eliminate all parasites, if they're not in large numbers. It also depends on what type of parasite it is too. Pin worms are not that harmful in small numbers. If, when he's checking the slide and only sees one or two pin worms in the sample, he's not going to treat the iguana, but if the slide shows a larger number per sample, he would suggest treatment.
I would suggest treatment if the numbers get above 5 per sample, but might not recommend a full treatment until the numbers are higher. Consulting your Vet is the best bet. Some Vets may not know the newest research in this area and may need to be informed of it, so they can do some follow up research on the topic. Remember, our Vets maybe good, but they also can benefit from any information passed on by iguana people.
