If they are that long you might want to have the vet do the first good trimming . You might also keep in mind why they grow so long in captivity . In the wild they " WEAR them off " If you supply him or her with more climbing area this helps . I have a big rock in each cage under there light this helps to . Also Henry lizard lover has a GREAT tool for " trimming nails " although it does not trim them it melts them so even if you make a mistake and go to short you don't get a bleeder . You must be very careful with this tool though . If you decide to cut then I have found the scissor type nail trimmers for cats work best . These are just my opinions . They are many many ways to do this but the most important thing in trimming nails is you have to be comfortable while doing it .. If you are not then by all means have someone else do it . I also find if your going to be cutting them a good long bath can prevent splintering and makes the cutting go easy .
