Well, I find myself sitting here in complete astonishment and disbelief ......

Astonishment and disbelief that you, creaturemd, claim to have come here looking for information and advice and then when you didn't like the info/advice you were given decided that everyone was attacking you.

As far as you and Craig having the opinion that this whole thing is "over the top" -you are entitled to your opinions just like EVERYONE else on this board is entitled to theirs. And before anyone jumps me, I'm not writing this to defend my husband (Mr. D) when he is wrong I tell him he is. So, that being said let me tell you why I think this is "over the top".....

First of all, YOU WERE COMPLETELY OUT OF LINE ALLUDING TO THE FACT THAT THE PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD CONTRIBUTE TO THE ABUSE AND NEGELCT OF IGUANAS! I take personal offense to that statement because we have a house full of igs that people threw away, we care for them, provide them warm, loving homes and have paid huge vet bills bringing them all back to health. So, BEFORE you go around spouting that garbage, you better think twice if you indeed want anyone here to welcome you with open arms. You made a terrible first impression with me based on that post and sadly for you,you only get to make one first impression.

Secondly, you come, as a new person, to this forum, this forum where many iguana loving folks join together, some newbies, some old timers and some who rescue these animals and ask a non-qualified question. A question that will spark most of us who are concerned with the ever growing numbers of unwanted iguanas both in this country and beyond to question your motives. No one accused you of being high on testosterone. I think the big question of the day was to try to understand why you were looking for this info and possibly, hopfully, talk you into adopting one of the thousands of iguanas that need a home. When you did get an answer to your question, you didn't like it.

You need to understand that many of us get approached by tons of people on a daily basis looking to buy an iguana without being fully prepared to properly care for it. Double that and you get the number of people who approach rescue agencies and people like me, my husband and Travis about taking in their iguanas when they no longer want them or can care for them and in many cases these animals are sick or dieing. So, when one more of these "I am looking for an iguana" posts comes along you can bet that all of us are going to try to impress upon the person that adoption is a better way to go and unless you are fully prepared and understand all the requirements and pros and cons of getting an iguana -most of us are going to be guarded about helping anyone buy an iguana and all of us are going to try to educate the person as much as possible.

If you are trying to become a vet then I don't understand how you could not appreciate that these animals are in crisis and that folks like us are tyring to stop the problem. I would think that you would be more interested in the preservation of an animal then in your own desires. Furthermore, the fact that you are currently a student leaves me to question whether or not you atually have enough time to properly care for an animal. It doens't matter that you have access to top notch veterinary care -if you take proper care of an animal, you shouldn't need all that much vet care outside of "well animal checkups". I know how busy and hectic(not to mention expensive)the life of a student is and I am sure that medicine -in any form, is a demanding field. Good intentions and desire aside, the welfare of the animal always needs to be put first.

So, I suggest, that if you want to be warmly welcomed into and have your opinions and thoughts respected by a group of people who have obvious love and dedication to these animals, you act accordingly and show them the same courtesy and respect. Don't come on the scene like a gang buster spouting about all your education and reported intellegence and expect eveyone to bow to you. You, like everyone else here, has to earn the respect of his/her fellow forum members by showing the type of person you are.

So, this is as warm a welcome as I can give you based on your own behavior. I hope you will read this post and take stock in yourself and your own actions beore you point the finger at anyone else.

As far as Kingsnake shutting this board down Craig, I don't see it. All of us, with the exception of a moment here or there, manage to behave like adults when sharing opinions. We don't all have to agree with each other all the time and the chances of that happening are slim to none. The whole point of a fourm is to share ideas, opinons, knowledge and experience. While it's true that often times some of us get frustrated by the seeming lack of intellegence and feel the need to blow off some steam -no one runs around attacking people unprovoked.

Ig Chick/Mrs D
