: : You knowledgeable folks just amaze me! So this radiant heat panel, I know nothing about it. Is this something that can be installed into the hood I described? If I do that do I still need the other two kinds of lights? How big is it? What is the approximate cost?

: I have Mr D slaving away in the kitchen (actually making smashed taters for our dinner -yeah I know it's late but we're used to not getting ourselves fed till this hour) so I'll answer your questions! lol
: Yes, the radiant heat panel can be installed into the hood although it may call for some slight rethinking to accomodate it as far as light placement goes. It is meant to be installed on a ceiling or wall so you'll have more than one option for installation. Also, installation is a breeze -couple of screws and you're good to go!
: Yes, you still have to supply both kinds of lights, this (the radient heat panel) is for heat only. You will need the UV source (the one that looks like a flourescent light) and atleast 1 basking source (because iggys love to bask). If you use the radient panel, you shouldn't need any other heat source though.
: The panels come in assorted sizes and price varies according to size. Our suggestion is that you go to www.herpsupplies.com and check them out for yourself. John (the owner) will be able to answer most any question you have about them, including what size may work best for you.
: The other great thing about radient heat panels is that, unlike a CHE, they have an emergency shutoff built in and it can't get any hotter than 130* (I think that is the right temp -best to double check with herpsupplies though). What this means, in a nut shell (darn I'm hungry lol) is that you don't run the same risk of fire hazard that you do with a CHE.
: Like I said cost varies but keep in mind what you pay upfront, you save down the road with cheaper electricity usage and not having to replace anything every few years. Also, you don't need any special fixtures for a radient heat panel.
: Any other questions, never hestate to ask

: Mrs D aka Ig Chick
