I see what you mean, some (with great exception) can be lose cannons, but most are pretty mentally sound, Iknow it sounds strange but iguanas will not lash out for no apparent reason. Many times they will run to avoid confrontation, or give you a warning if they feel their space has been violated. I guess you just have to "read" your iguana, If you can't handle a large lizard when its having an off day, then don't get an iguana. Iguanas can be moody and yes, they do have off days (well, all of the ones I've kept or met do) Bearded dragons make very personable pets and don't get too big (they are also a lot easier to care for).
