: At the risk of getting hate mail ....I think maybe what Travis was referring to ... and excuse me if I'm stepping over my bounds here .... is the number of novice herpers who have websites filled with info that a) may not be/is not 100% accurate, b) is info they have gotten from other people and is not based on any personal experience and c) comes across as if the person writing the website is some type of authority on the subject.
: On a personal note, I have noticed more than a few newbies who have inundated us with email asking questions, visit our site frequently and then turned around and made their own site based on ours. Don't get me wrong, I'm not being catty but it does bother me when someone who only has a few months experience with their ig does that sort of thing. Mr D and I have spent considerable time, both in terms of years and weekly hours, researching, reading, studying, going to lectures, talking to vets and working with our own iguanas. While we are by no means experts, I feel that some of the respect we may have gained comes from all these things. While we are relatively new to sharing out here on the net, we have been doing this (iguana care) for around 15 years combined.
: Also, when a self admitted newbie makes a site they are often so excited that they tend to leave out the finer details such as differences in respected opinions and resource information. In other words, they post one "diet", usually tout one "iguana authority" or another and rarely if ever explain that they could be wrong themselves.
: I don't think having a website where you share personal experience is a bad thing, as long as you clearly point out that that is exactly what it is. Which reminds me that with all of our site renovations, we need to republish our "letter of intent" in a more visable location on our site.
