The problem is that the intensity of the radiation drops at a geometric progression, such as double the distance, four times less radiation. (This may not be the exact numbers, but the principle is the same)Also, the newer the light, the more radiation you get at a greater distance. At any rate, within 12" inches is best, but within 18" will benefit. Beyond that, there is not much help. Remember that the bulbs need to be changed every 6 months. I've finished with mounting the light and it is 12" from Lucy. She looked at me like what in Heck are you doing now? Can't you just leave me alone for a day without making a change? I know she'll like it. I will plug it in for the first time tomorrow. Russell,Cindi & Lucy
