I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. However I feel that I must point out that while it is true that pellets can cause impaction, there is a safe way to feed them. Since we use an alfalfa based food in pelleted form, we never feed it by itself and always mix it with fruits and or veggies with good water content. That way the water content breaks down the pellet and will not cause impaction. More likely than not it was the poor nutrition that caused the initial medical problems and not the pellets themselves. The damage done by the pellets was a result of the iguana's body being unable to process them correctly. We have found that the alfalfa based pellets make a great addition to the overall nutritional program we follow and do not cause any fears of impaction when used properly.
