I have been looking into a lot on them, but am interested about some other things I haven't seen clearly marked, like how do they respond to loud noises, fast movements and other pets for example. Thanx for all the help so far, you can be sure to see more of me. thanx
igs tend to get stressed out "fairly" easily .... they do NOT like change ... when we moved last year, it took iZ a month or more to finally calm back down and get into his old eating like a pIG cheerful self .... i was not a good time ....
loud noises ... well, before iZ got his own room upstairs, his enclosure was in the livingroom (with the stereo) and i could always tell when my husband or son had been playing music loud enough to shake the windows because iZ would just be WHITE when i got home ... even hours after it had quieted down .... it was kinda funny ... they couldn't figure out HOW i knew .... til i pointed out to them that iZ turns white when he's extremely stressed ....
fast movements .... tend to be interpretted as a possible predator attack ... not good ...
other pets ... iZ gets along just fine with my dwarf rabbit ... one rules the floor and one rules the high places ... well, sometimes when iZ is running across the floor, he'll just run right over the rabbit like a speedbump ... other that that, they totally ignore each other ...
we just got a new puppy who want very much to play with iZ and we keep them VERY seperated!!!! a friend of mine had a dog who played with his ig and the ig ended up in the vet's office getting sewn back together .... right now, i think i'd bet on iZ winning ... but it's NOT a good idea .... same thing with cats ... bad idea ... think about it ... cats and dogs are natural predators and igs tend to be FOOD in the wild .... and igs don't really mind be solitary .... i'm pretty sure most of them PREFER solitary ....
i just re-read this and i think i know WHY i like iZ sooo much .... he gets stressed out even EASIER than i do!!!! around him, I look CALM .... he he he
one more thing ... you can't BELIEVE how FAST igs GROW!!!!!! i got iZ when he was 30" long nose to tail (10" SVL) and weighed less than one pound ... not quite 2 years later, he is 54" nose to tail, 18" SVL and over 6 pounds (and is on the skinny side....) ... i built and revised 4-5 enclosures for him because every time i finished one, a month later it was too small!!! so the moral of the story is, build LARGE the first time (or give him his own room like i finally did)!
happy herping to ya!
:P + :)
