: On the topic of herp societies, unless there's a large number of iguana owners in the club, chances are, they won't be too interested on green iguanas. Our club only has a few members who are iguana owners and they focus more on either local reptiles or more unusual types of worldwide reptiles. '
: But that's not to say your local club doesn't have knowledgable people who could help with information.

Mr D and I belong to NH Herptile Society and I am their webmaster. Until we came along, there wasn't any strong "iguana people" in the group, most of the members were "snake people". We are trying to change that! I think "iguana people" are a different sort of lot and in reality have much less free time than other types of pet owners, especialy those who have mulitple iguanas in their homes. Joining a society was not very high on our list of things to do, we just kind of fell into it. I can say though, that we have benefited from beign members through referals we got to our vet and herp supplier!
Now having actualy donated time to one of these societies, I have to say in the defense of all that it is very difficult to provide well rounded information on every type of animal. Sometimes the best that can be done is a starting point, page of links, books, etc. Since just about all the people who are associated with a society are volunteers, I can say without being ashamed that we have noticed that it does take longer to get things done and see change happen.
As far as the laws go though, I've linked the NH Herp site directly to another website that covers all the animal regulations in New Hampshire. Since anyone can join NH Herp, regardless of location, if someone will point me to any Internet resource that covers the rules in Maine, I would be happy to put the information on the website!
