Melamine is the BEST " wood " product to build cages with . It is non toxic non porous and cleans with a wipe . FYI paint is not a good thing to have around an iguana IE the iguana or you scratches the paint on the floor you can not keep this spot clean anymore god knows what can breed in the scratch or he or she eats the chips that may occur . Melamine does not scratch ( unless you use a hammer ) it will not absorb water ( or poop or urine ) if you seal the edges it lasts it is strong it is very easy to work with it is NON toxic . I should also mention the fact that even after airing out a painted cage the fact that your going to be keeping it at temperatures that will make the paint continue to release fumes . But hey you go do what you want . I hope it works for you .

Ps if you really want a shocker call the paint company and ask them what chemicals are released from paint what kept at a high temperature and high humidity . I am sure you will be surprised by what they tell you . It might even change your mind about paint ?
