Many of us are attempting to make heard all of the points that you brought up. With your permission, Mickey, I'd like to use your post as part of a presentation my wife and I are hopefully going to be making in a few weeks to a regional office of that PetCompany. If you would like more details before you make a decision feel free to e-mail us.
If you would like to look around and try to find a qualified vet for Al you can begin the search at www.arav.org. In all honesty, if he has been eating dog food for this long, even in the small amounts you describe you may want to see if you can head off any kidney problems - if they haven't started already. If there's anything that we can ever do to help further your knowledge don't hesitate to come back to the board. There are many excellent people out here who would be more than happy to assist, I'm sure.
