Ok, I've been feeling icky for the past few days, fighting a 4 day migrain (associated with the skull fracture I recieved when I took a 6 foot fall off the porch back in May...but I digress)and get filled with dread almost every time that I check my email because I know there will be a pile of emails from people looking for a quick fix for their iguanas or begging us to take another in. So, I have come here to vent a little and share a nice story in the hopes that the venting will be forgiven!

I don't know about anyone else but lately I have been receiving an alarming number of emails from people asking the most basic of questions that could be answered if they would just read a short article, looking for quick fixes to their problems with their pet iguana. It seems to me that all too often people want to be spoon fed information and then will turn around and give every excuse in the book for not following the advice that I took time out of my schedule to give, when again, they could just go read an article and learn the same things. I think my biggest pet peeve these days is the number of times I have had to type "Go to the vet ASAP" -I might as well make it a short cut key so I don't have to type it out anymore. I just don't understand the lax attitude people have when it comes to their pets. I often find myself wondering why they bothered getting one in the first place.

I have been accused of being aggressive from time to time. In my eyes, I'm not being aggressive, I'm being honest but I guess when someone is on the recieving end of my honesty they don't want to see it that way. People are constantly asking me to put myself in their shoes and see it from their point of view -I think I'm going to start doing the same thing. Put yourself in the shoes of a person/people who rescue these animals, who give up more than one room or portion of room in their homes, give up vacations and free time, spend money caring for other people's animals, rejoice in the victories and cry over the defeats of loosing one and these people, myself and husband included, do all this willingly, never looking for a pat on the back or glory -we do it just because we love animals. So, next time someone thinks I am being aggressive stop and put yourself in my shoes before biting my head off or making some lame attempt to belittle me.

Okay .... venting portion over

Earlier tonight the phone rang and I was going to lie and say I wasn't home because I didn't know the person on the other end or why they were calling me. Ok, I know how bad that sounds but this is day 4 of a migrain and I feel like poop. Turns out the gentleman on the other end of the phone had been given our number by a local pet shop because he wanted to find a new home for his 2 foot iguana. I king of hemmed and hawed because in reality I am really sick of these phone calls, especialy when they come from out of state. So, we got to talking and he realized that we take in iggys and have some up for adoption so he began asking about them .... turns out he doens't really want to give up his iggy but it is aggressive and he can't even handle it, let alone feed it without wearing protective clothing. So, 20 minutes later the man and I are working together on ways for him to socialize his iguana. We're going to drive to see him in a few days so we can get a better idea of what he is dealing with. Maybe with a little helping hand and some guidance we can make the situation work instead of having to find yet another home for another iggy. I was just so thrilled that this person was willing to work on the situation, all he needs is a little help! Lucky for him he walked into the pet store we had been in several days ago and they had the info sheet we gave them because he apparently didn't know where to look for help! So, I guess the moral of the story is, you can have a successful relationship with a pet store!

Hope that makes up for the venting part!!

Ig Chick
