i got my ig after a schnieder skink, many turtles, hermit crabs, anoles, newts, salamanders, and frogs. i actually kept spiders and moths before my ig. so that makes it my 10th animal...and i won't lie, i had an ig before my current one that died after 2 yrs because i never was told how to care for it nor did i think i needed to learn much. i just went with what the pet store told me :( personally, if you know what your getting (size, temps, food, attitudes, etc.) into i think iguanas are easy to keep and maintain. i think the hardest part of keeping an iguana for a newbie would be dealing with size. igs grow like weeds and are gonna need a large enclosure in a short time. i think that the next hard thing is the temps, and than humidity. so definately igs are not a good first pet although i am sure there are many exceptions to that. people wanting a 1st time pet so choose something smaller and a little easier to care for....though all reptiles require maintance and up keep...hardier is the word. corn snakes, leopard geckos, beardies.........
