The other day, someone mentioned getting the agriculture Dept involved in Animal cruelity cases. I emailed the Dept. Today I received a call. I was told that we (reptile peps) must write and request more inspections and more training for animal control officers. They told me it was too late to get laws this year but we can suggest regulation changes. I received a zip file of the regs and laws in VA today. The regs lean toward disease ie dogs, birds must have health certificates to enter the state, etc. We might be able to focus on salmonella on children when igs are giveaways and that sick reptiles most often get mites. Also, what about a permit import fee that pays for reptile education for owners and control officers.
I was also told that we should copy the State Humane Soc Pres. I explained the ban and I was told that she KNEW that she wasn't going to get a ban, but would probably settle for small changes that help reptiles.
This office is also cluless to the fact that people are abondoning these pets anywhere and that we import them at $1.33 per head.
