I would suggest 4 foot deep and sense sheets of Melamine come 4 by 8 it makes less cutting and an easy job. I would also make a false floor so the inside height no more then 4 feet until he is bigger .O yea if you are going to use Melamine and I hope you are make sure that you get edge banding for it and put it on EVERY edge before you put it together ( trust me on this one ) it is also wise to use the Melamine screws instead of drywall screws ( Drywall screws tend to splinter the wood ) it is also a good idea to put a small bead of caulk ( only use aquarium caulk you can get this at a glass supply place )in all the joints so water and bits of food and such don't get in the cracks . Of course I hope your using a PVC coated wire ? Well good luck on your building project .

Ps make sure you let it sit for a day or two to air out good before you let the guy move into it .
