: Lizzy's new cage will be 4'X 6'X 4' or 5' tall. I think I'm going to need two UVB flourescent bulbs. A pet store nearby has 30" light strips with 24" bulbs that are 20W. Will that be enough for her?
I tend to agree with everyone else that bigger is better however, keep in mind that you are going to need room for things other than UV such as basking lights and a possible secondary heat source. Before you buy, I suggest taking measurements and doing some planning on paper to make sure that you get the things that will work well for you. The other thing to remember is that the last inch or so on each end of the UV fixture is usually worthless as far as UV output .... make sure the source is large enough to provide as much accessable UV as possible.
In the enclosure for our largest which is 6 feet long we are using a 36" UV source up top with a 18"x24" radiant heating module as well as a reflector fixture with a basking bulb. The enclosure is 6 feet tall (wish we had higher ceilings ... #$*(# old house lol anything taller and we can't get it through doors) so about 1/2 way down there is a secondary, smaller UV source and another basking area.
Hope this helps!
