He is in a 20G long tank and is still young. He's not even a foot in length and we've only had him for a few months. He has UV lighting, and the temp is right on, he is active and his diet consists of a mixture of greens, veggies and comercial young iguana food. He has been eating too. We have a much larger cage for it but he's still too small and we're afraid he may escape it. We recently added that wood chip substrate...could this be a factor? We don't think he likes this stuff very much because now he just climbs on his branches and we are changing it. Any suggestions? Thanks again for all your help.

: usually, such "dull" color changes are related to stress and/or lack of proper heat.

: Even if ur iguana is outside and getting all the light it needs, the cage or living condition may still be not good enough. Maybe it is exposed to noises or animals that can scare it.

: If indoors, make sure your cage is BIG, and the lighting is proper.

: You didnt tell us much on whether it is feeding right or not, or is becoming lethargic.

: Also, endo-parasites may cause such discolorations, but usually it is more stress related. If you double check everything, and your iguana is as healthy as an ox, then it's just nature.

: Some iguanas do vary in coloration, bulk, spikes, etc, due to different subspecies from south america, and cross-breeding.

: Tell us more about the cage setup you have, diet, and behavior of your iguana, as well as its age.

: If the iguana is still a sub-adult or younger, then it might be in trouble.

: Keep us posted!
: : So my iguana is turning brown. What is this a symptom of? How can I make him a pretty green again.
