taming new iguana?

I just got a baby ig. from one of my friends who said that he did not want him anymore, because the ig. bit him and he is a big whimp! So I took the little guy whom I named courious george. My question is if I correct his diet, which I don't think was the best and his last cage was too small. He is now in a much bigger one. Will he be less likely to bite me? How long should I wait for him to get use to his new home before I try to handle him? Thanks for any help.
