1) not everyone can spare a WHOLE room for a 'stupid' lizard, nor are willing to give up one for it. They rather set up a terrarium.
2) people are not smart enough to realize its benefits, and stubbornly stick to the cages concept.
3) to offer a room, means also moving out some furnitures and/or things such as vases, frames, and curtains. And then where do you put them?
4) an iguana can get used to the luxury, but if there is time to move to a cage or new house for any reasons, the sudden change may stress it.
but mostly it is for reason #1. i used to have an ig in a 8x8x8 wire mesh cage, inside a room, all for himself. the enormous cage kept him from getting into trouble.
