Raise the price of an iguana. Don't make them such diposable pets. If it cost more, some people won't buy them and the others will look at it more in an investment way than "Hey, it only cost me $20.00"
Try selling them at 49.95 or 69.95 and see how many you sell then. I doubt that the impulse buyer will look at getting one at those prices.
Also, label the tanks or cages with detail information on needed supplies for raising the reptile. Do this with ALL your reptiles in the store. Example:
Requirements for this reptile:
UVB light
(no more than 18" away from reptile during the day)
Basking light
(set up so temperature is 95 degrees during day time)
Heating element:
(for night temps) NOTE: A hot rock should NOT be used for this reptile.
Cage requirements:
This reptile will grow to a length of 5 to 6 feet and will require a VERY large cage and can not be kept in a tank.
diet: (list a number of main greens and veggies)
Life range: 12 to 20 years
Care skill level: 8 ( having a skill level range for all your reptiles from 1 to 10 for diffculty, will help people to understand what level of skill they must have to raise a certain reptile)
The above should be done with ALL your reptiles in your store and not just the iguanas. Try this once and see what kind of results you get.
Best wishes,
HD
