i'm sorry, this is going to be a little bit long...The other day, I was going to get my 7 year-old iguana's food bowl to feed him and as i went to the cage, he proceeded to start shaking like crazy. His arms and legs were stiff and it looked to me as if he was having a seizure. I took him to the vet immediately and the vet said they can have seizures for all different reasons, the most common being from calcium deficiency. He said this wasn't the case with my iggy Jake because i told him what i was feeding him and his cage temp, etc, and he said that was all the right stuff to be doing. He gave Jake a blood test and we went home. The rest of that day, he seemed a little better, just a little bit weak, but i noticed that his muscles were twitching under his skin. The next morning, the vet called and the blood results were not good. He said Jake was having renal failure (kidney failure) and that he was anemic. He said there was really no way to treat it except that i could go get liquid calcium to try to stop the seizures and to give him that and water in a syringe. I am completely devastated because this came on so suddenly...just the other day he was running around my room and nothing was wrong...He has gotten worse since the day i took him to the vet (2 days ago). I got him to drink the calcium and water, and i mashed up some bananas just to get some kind of food in his stomach since i don;t know if he is strong enough to chew and swallow the collard leaves. i just don't know what to do. He can't lift himself up to walk and just drags himself a few inches and lays back down, and that in itself takes all his energy. He hasn't gotten any sleep ( i dont think) because every time i go over to his cage, even late at night, his eyes are open. I feel terrible, and i don;t want him to suffer, and it just kills me that he is so alert and tries so hard to get up and walk and he can't; he's just too weak. I know he is sad and doesn't understand why he can't get up. Has anyone else gone through anything like this? i'm so upset and i just don't know what i can do for him...any help would be greatly appreciated..thanks.
