Theresa,

First off, I would say don't take it too hard, it sounds like your heart and mind was in the right place, when you were raising this iguana. consider this, we can do everything right, caring for an iguana and yet, one day the iguana could wake up with a sickness, that can take his/her life in days. Genetics play a role in how long an iguana is going to live, humans play a role in supplying the needed food and housing to make the latter happen.
Without running test on your iguana, it's hard to say whether it was worms, cancer, or a number of other medical problems. Although, a worm problem could have been treated, many other diseases may not have.
If an iguana's time is up, it's up, but I understand what you are putting yourself through; you may never find the answer to the questions running in your mind. Come to terms with it, if you believe you did everything you could for the iguana, then that's all you could have done. Hey, doing research on your iguana before buying it, impresses me completely! So don't beat yourself up over it. Chances are, the iguana was born with something medically wrong with it and there wasn't anything you could have done.
As stated by other people who posted, there's many unwanted iguanas out there, looking for a loving home.
Best wishes,
HD
