For the most part, iguanas slow down during the winter months. In my opinion, I believe that High and Low pressures play a large part in their eating habits during the winter months. If a major cold front moves into our area, they hardly eat at all. But if pressures stabilize for 4 or 5 days, they increase their eating habits.
I know another something else that does this same thing, fish! If a front moves in, fish shut down eating! Research has been done with fish and it's proven that pressures play a major role in their eating habits.
With our iguanas, when Spring gets here, we will be doubling up on all their meals and in some cases, tripling up. You should always offer them as much as they want to eat. If the bowl is empty, you should refill it with some food. Last year, I had Harry working on a fourth bowl a few times. He didn't finish the bowl, but he did give it has best shot. He was an eatin'....poopin' machine, last summer!
Best Wishes,
HD
