I had the same problem with my ig, but it was the coffee table he liked to go on. I'll tell you what I did, if the right way to do it I don't know but it worked. First thing was when he went on the table we get him and show him what he did then we would put him in time out in one of his old cages that he out grew. Then every time he got on the table we would move off the table. I gave him baths every day for a while. One day I found that he went in the bathroom next to the toilet. I got a litter box and filled it with shred paper from work. Then every day when I take my shower I take him in the bathroom with me and put him in his box. Now he always uses his box. Well every once in a while he goes in front or behined it. He will even wait at the door if we are in the bathroom till he can use his box. I don't know if this will help you. Maybe I just got lucky.
