Salt?

Recently Hoppy has white stuff around his nostrils. At first I thought that he may be starting to shed, but it is still localized so don't think that it is skin. I read about this salt snorting thing, so I'm wondering if that's what it is. He seems otherwise normal. Should I try to remove the stuff with a moist Q-tip or something? Should I put a box of Kleenex in his habitat?
