similar to other repties, they turn darker, and sit on dark surfaces, like rocks or trunks, to absorb as much heat as possible. darker colors can be several dgrees warmer than lighter ones. the dewlap may be used to further absorb the rays.
activity slows down to lethargy, because of lower possibility to consume energy and food.
burros and hollow trees provide protection from the elements.
in the galalpagos, it is not very warm either, and the ocean water is no jacuzzi, but the dark coloration and rocks help the gala igs stay warm and toasty.
