I keep my IG in my room. It takes some more work on my end but so far it hasn't been bad. Yes mine will get into things - more like knock things off shelfs that he can get to. I am in the process of repotty training him. He was trained once but I moved and he hasn't been trained since. So far the messes that he has made haven't made my room smell bad (thank goodness). My Guina Pig creates more order then my IG does. I am in the process of trying to tub-potty train. Maybe if you do a little more research and talk to your day you might be able to work out a deal or trial period. I am not saying that keeping your IG in your room will be easy. You have to spend more time making sure that their enviroment is proper, the messes that they make are cleaned up, and any thing that they knock over and break wasn't something that was very valuable to you. Good luck.
