Let me assure you that being bitten by a 3' or larger iguana is an extremely painful experience. Almost no pain at the time of the bite, but a long, painful healing process. The teeth are extremely sharp! (I have included a picture which shows teeth!) I don't want to scare you , but everyone needs to be aware that a large iguana can do a lot of damage which will probably require a trip to the emergency room. I was bitten by my ig Bug on Sept. 25th on my right thumb, and I'm still healing. Now, having said all of that, you should not let this keep you from handling your ig. I was bitten because I did not heed the warning I was given. Bug was in season, orange, outside in the sun, and agitated (lots of shudder bobs). He let me know not to mess with him, and I did anyway. Hard lesson. I still handle him every day, and he's fine. If he warns me to leave him alone, I do. You should not be afraid of them, but give them the respect they deserve as a large, powerful animal.
