How we got Rex, only it was from a horrible pet store near my house. We were told the same thing by the guy at the store about food etc. However, the guy *did* make us buy a book on iguanas before we left the store....it was a horrible book, but at least the intention was there. We got home, set him up in his 30 gal tank. (no UVB, by the way) got on line, found BabyHerp over at AOL iguana board who directed me to MK's site (yes, she recommended MK's site!! lol!) and this site and I was on my way! Rex is now happy and healthy and on his way to becoming a grown up. I must note though, that had I known about all the problems with unwanted igs, I would definitely have adopted instead. (Both our cats are adopted). But...being dumb and, as you put it, an @sshole, I had no clue of the problem. I'm really glad we have him. He is truely part of our family. :)
