Mark,
How much online information have you read yet? Not to say this person at the pet store doesn't know what they are talking about, but 90% of the ones I've run acrossed, DON'T.
To allow an iguana to roam a house freely, means you must make your house IG proof. Any small objects, plants, hair,etc...that's on the floor must be cleaned up first. Any objects that this iguana can climb, must be checked to assure that nothing is going to get tipped over, if he climbs on it. A small cracks between appliances, must be blocked. And the list goes on.....and on.
Free roaming is very possible if you can figure out where your iguana wants to bask at. Once this is understood, set up a basking branch with a UVB light and heat source by it.
Note: I'm interested in knowing what kind of material this person is using for the litter box? We use plain water in ours.
Additional information online is only a click away, some of the regulars here have some addresses that I am sure, they'll post for you.
Unlike any reptile you mentioned you've had, an iguana will be a handful. It could be as sweet as it is right now OR it could turn 180 degrees. Are you ready to live with that? Unlike your snake, iguana's can move FAST.....jump a good distance and their teeth can do a number on you. As many know here, our Harry was mellow for the first 6 months.....once he hit breeding season, he never looked back!! I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw a car!!! He's 100% evil!
On the other hand, we have 3 females that are just fine.
Read up as much as you can before making your decision. Food, heat, etc...requires alot.
Best Wishes,
HD
