quick question

I have made a few of my own little blue prints for my iguanas new cage which is going to be made out of pvc piping. All I need to figure out now is what size pvc piping to use. This cage is going to be used through out his life and when he starts growing hopefully I want it to be sturdy enough. He is about 3 1/2 feet long. Should I use 1" pvc piping or bigger?
