You will have to decide for yourself about moving the dish. You are right that it could have its consequences but you never know-- as long as it is fairly visible to him from most parts of the cage (and where he likes to sit most of the day) I shouldn't think that you had to move it. If you get really concerned about him not eating as much, you could encourage him by moving him down there yourself or some handfeeding. And, it may not be the end of the world if you move his dish either. As far as how long will it take him to adjust.... every ig is different but it could be couple weeks, or it could be longer. You will notice some slow improvements-- until he finally just forgets what his old cage used to be like! Also, keep in mind that some igs don't eat quite as much in the winter.
: i felt a little better after reading what you wrote about stress and change, i knew about them stressing but i guess i never put two and two together, he is still eating but not as much. His pooping is consistant, same spot same form, im not any poop expert but it looks ok to me. Let me ask you one more thing, i put his food bowl on the very bottom of the cage, so that way he would poop there too. do you think it would make a difference putting his bowl up a little higher so maybe he will feel safer when he eats, i would rather not do that just because he might start pooping somewhere other then the puulout tray. and last, how long do you think it will take him to get adjusted to his new home?
