: : My daughter was getting Merlin's bath ready and she had him on her shoulder. The running water must have scared him and he jumped to the bathroom floor. She didn't try to grab him, but he released his tail. Poor little guy must have been pretty upset. Anyway now that he is without his beautiful tail we have been putting anti-bacterial oitment on the end of whats left. Is there something else we can do? How long does it take to grow it back? I assume that it will be months and I know it will not be as wonderful as his first. Should he be fed foods higher in a certain vitamin? Maybe more calium? Was he lacking in a vitamin or mineral to release his tail so easily? He is beginning to fatten up. At least for a little ig. Mainly what can we do for him?

Joan sorry to here about the iguana's tail, not much you can do at this point the tail wiil grow nback but normally not as long or as pretty. if the tail is not oozing or showing signs of infection your best bet is to let it regenerate on it's own.i would however make sure you keep the iguana as clean as possible and keep him on newspaper for awhile to aviod any infection from another substrate.as for his diet just keep him on a normal iguana diet.melissa kaplan has a excellant iguana care sheet on the internet you can download.iguana are great pets i have two that are over 4ft in length along with 40, other lizards that share a bedroom. GOOD LUCK
