: This story is EXTREEMELY sad. Whipster (short for WhipperSnapper cause he likes to whip occasionally) is doing great but I found out some really bad news about the origional Ig we were supposed to foster that was left in a box by a dumpster.

: When we went to visit Patti in Raleigh (which is about an hour from where we are) she decided to send Whipster with us instead of the other because the "dumpster" Ig was a female and she already had several males. She must have been inspired because that very night the female was unable to move one of her arms. She went to the vet the very next day. During the exam he found that she had a fractured front leg, back leg and pelvis. When he went to turn her over to draw blood her backbone snapped. She lost control of her bodily functions and pooped all over the assistant. Patti said they all heard the snap very distinctly. The vet felt terrible. They had to have her put to sleep. Anyway, it was apparant that the DORKHEADS that had her had never provided the proper UV lighting. Her bones must have been like chalk! Poor thing is in a better place now.:o<

: I don't know what I would have done if we'd brought her home. I am not as experienced and it would have been super hard to deal with.

: Now for some happy news. As it now stands, Whipster is a happy, healthy Ig. He's 26 inches and very docile. I can tell he was definitely a roamer with whoever owned him previously. The only time I have a problem with him is when I go to take him from his cage and let him out. He likes to whip at ya but has not once tried to bite. He's hissed a few times though. When he's out he's all over this house. It's pretty funny. He climbs up into the window for sun and yesterday when the sun started to fade from the living room, he was bumping his nose on the pane to try and get to the sun outside. I moved him into the dining room where he basked a while longer. I wish the rays were good through the glass! He's really easy about being picked up when he's out, which is nice. You don't have to stalk him like you do with Baby. LOL

: I've been mentioning every where I go that I have an Iguana up for adoption. Yesterday one of the baggers at our grocery store (nice lady, probably twenty-something) said she was very interested. She had to talk to her boyfriend first. I gave them my info and they came by that evening. They seem really excited. They said that he would have his own room and that they were going to build him a big cage. I sent them a ton of sites to help prepare and to read up on, plus gave them a care sheet. I'm keeping Whipster until next week. They will take him on Monday. They will borrow one of my UV lights a heat lamp, and night lamp until they order theirs. I told them about this forum so maybe we'll see a post on here soon. It's such a good feeling to know that you've been able to help one of these little green guys! Sorry this post is so long, I'm just totally pumped about being a member of NIAD and involved in such a good cause. We can't save 'em all but we can certainly do our best to help those we can! Take care all! J
