Ryan,
Where would I start to explain everything to you? Sometimes comparing humans to reptiles is like Apple to concrete.....there's NO comparison! This would be the case when you talk out humans eating bad food, you see, we as humans have a choice in which foods we choose to consume. Now Captive reptiles on the other hand.....have only two choices: 1. eat what their owners feed them or 2. starve to death. When it comes down to it, humans are responsible for supplying foods that will assure the reptile a lengthy life in captivity and if you don't believe that's true, when you shouldn't own ANY animals.
You mentioned the pet store owner having a large iguana....this is where the laughing comes in, but it's a sad laugh none the same; a 3 foot iguana isn't a large iguana at all for a 10 year old. You have your facts wrong on the age, the iguana is unhealthy, the cage is too small or a combination of the above!! A 10-year-old iguana should be at least 5 foot and more likely close to 6 feet in length. Three of our iguanas, which aren't even 7 years of age, are already past 3 feet....they're working on the 5 to 6 foot range.
It would be interesting to see blood labs for Chuck's, Pet Store Owner's and your iguana....I can tell you right now, protein levels would be elevated and very possible a few other bases would be high! If you don't believe me, take your iguana in to the Vet for lab work.
Oh while we're on this subject of protein, consider this......wild iguanas live in trees 90% of their life with 10% on the ground being for breeding times......mice live on the ground.....95% to 100% of their life.
I feel an unknown sadness for this iguana at the pet store, even without seeing it; I know it's doomed by its owner. Now you on the other hand, P.O. me because you come here making statements of poor knowledge and firmly stick with it. I'm sorry for the iguana having to put up with living with you. You are giving it a slow death and it's not right. You shouldn't own an animal you can't take care of properly.
Study an animal first before getting one and continuing to consume knowledge and adjust to assure the best care possible for your animals.....it's your responsibility.....if you don't care to, then don't own animals.
HD........... who shouldn't have to wake up to this dung!
