I personally don't think I would try anything over the counter yet, or anything for "fattening" up igs at all. I'm not sure what determines how fat they get, I've seen some fat ones, but none of mine are, yet most of them eat 2 big bowls of food twice a day. Recently, I took in Angelo, who had to have 3 absceses removed from his face and was emaciated, I have no idea when he last ate before I took over his care. Also, Coolio has been eating very little over the last couple of weeks and noticably lost some weight. This is what I did and am still doing with Coolio, Angelo is now eating his regular diet like a little piggy and has noticably gained some weight :-)
small amount of yogart w/live cultures to build up gut bacteria, about an hour later some of MK's slurrie mixture, and now twice a day w/the mixture, which consists of: 1 can of Ensure, 1 mashed banana thinned w/Pedialyte, water (also says you can use gatorade, but I didn't want to mix too many flavors, so I went w/plain water). Coolio ate some greens tonight, but it was very little, so I will stick w/the slurries for a few more days. Her site also has a recipe for a plant-based slurry, which is what I will move on to if Coolio doesn't start eating more on his own.
Another thing you can try is to offer the leaf rather the salad. Or, one over the counter thing you can try to get him to eat (I've used successfully in the past, but didn't work this time) is something called Stimulap. It is an appetite stimulator, not something for "fattening" up. Also, your ig needs water and if not ever drinking it on his own, you may want to add some extra to his food when he is again eating. Good luck!
