Can they affect other animals?...

Sadly the baby Ig died today. Are these mites reptile specific? I was wondering if having this Ig in the store may endanger the other animals. They are already treating all the reptiles as a precaution, but my husband thought that he saw one of these red mites on his leg, so he thought they may infest the mammals (and birds?) in the store.
