In Reply to: UVB/UVA-need an answer fast... posted by Diana on October 25, 2000 at 18:11:07:
i use a zoo med 5.0 reptile florescent light for uvb.
the size of the light would depend on the size of your enclosure. i use a 36 inch one.
for heat i use a regular light bulb in basking area, wattage is based on what maintains the basking area to 95 degrees or so.
not an expert by any means, just what i do:)
: I'm headed out the door to buy a whole new lighting fixture and UVB/UVA bulbs for Habib for this coming winter. We've eeked out all the natural sunlight that last summer had to offer, and must now endure the coming Utah-winter with artificial UV rays.
: In the last several days, I've done quite a bit of reading about what lighting is best for Iguanas, but I still don't feel completely sure what to buy today.
: Can anyone with alot of experience shoot me off the size (length) of lighting fixture they use, and also, which lightbulb? It seems the opinions of the pro's are mixed as to which lightbulb is best, and so I'd really like some input from you guys.
: The only catch is, I have a brief window of opportunity to go to the reptile store, (which is pretty much right now) and so I kinda need feedback as soon as possible--like immediately if you can.
: Just quickly list off what size fixture you think is sufficient for my 35",2 year-old Iguana, and what light bulbs you've found to be the best for your own Igs.
: A big THANKS to all those who write... I really want to do what's best for the little guy, and figure I shoulda come to you guys sooner...after all, ya'll always seem to know what's best!
