Yes, it's a pull-cord. I usually hang it off to one side over a thumbtack so he can't reach it, but I didn't do it before taking this picture. He didn't seem too interested in it, though. (And no, we don't usually keep cans of Raid around him. :)

Today he had our roommate's room all to himself. We thought he might like some privacy, so he could settle down. Our roommate had to move, because he's allergic to animals. In addition to Sam here, we also have a rabbit and a frog. Three against one. :)
