I bought my first Igg from a pet store in a local mall.He was a li'l baby,so,so cute.I raised him up to the point where his spines were about 1 and 1/2 inches tall,he was outstanding. He was the kind of Igg you'd dream about.I kept a very large branch in my windowsill (corner to corner),with newspaper lining the sill.He loved it there. He spent all day there, just looking out the window, watching out over the water. He was my freind.I could actually call him,and he would come.Unbelievable animal, the most affectionate Igg I've ever had.Sometimes I would wake up in the morning,to find him sitting atop my exposed feet. The first time that occured,I nearly flung him 'cross the room out of fright! He seemed to love to be pet and held,by me only however.Well soon I decided it was time for him to have a playmate of his own species,to keep him company while I was at work.So I bought another one from a different store. They seemed to really get along. The new one was rather small comparatively, but began catching up fast, and he too enjoyed the branch in the window. He was a bit shy at first, but a month or so in the window, and he seemed to accept me as friend too.Well, one week, my job led me to venture out of town for a few days, and the Iggs were left in the care of my mother, whom I was living with then.I'll never forget the sorrow on her face the day I returned,my first Igg was gone!I didn't believe her at first, but after a very thorough search, and upon finding an area in the corner of the window where the screen had been pulled out,it hit home.I immidiately started my search through the neighborhood, asking neighbors, looking everywhere.I must have searched close to a square mile in deperation, all to no avail.I repeated the search daily, for at least 2 weeks.I was truly devistated.I still had the newer Igg,but it wasn't the same.As time passed,I grew to know and love the other, who was now confined to a cage with a sreen top.I took him out often, and we'd play.I kept his cage in the patio attached to the back of my mothers house. After some time,he really started to fill out, gaining the size of my previous Igg,and eventually surpassing him.He had alot of blues and pinks in his coloration, and we became close. He would even come to me when I offered food, not through verbal requests, but it was close. One funny thing about him,he seemed to "wag" his tail sometimes when I feel he was most content chillin' with me.Welp,as luck would have it,I came home from work one day,to find the screen on the top of the cage torn out,and my friend nowhere to be found.I knew the drill, and I think I did all the same routines as I had with the first Igg,but two or three times over...I even wore the batteries out of a new flashlight the first night. As before,I searched for weeks,to no avail.I was as heartbroken as the first time...no,actually more so.Not only had I lost the friend I spent all my time with, but I also lost the only part left of my first Igg too.I did cry.
It was many years before I was I was drawn in by a coupla juvinile Iggs sitting in a ten gallon tank in a li'l pet shop. But I indeed did take them home.I now have more Iggs than I can count on all my fingers and toes, and I have learned the importance of proper housing.I will never have the same feelings towards the Iggs I have now,as I once did with those first truly unique animals. But maybe I only feel that 'cause there's been no loss come into play,I don't know.I care for the Iggs I have now, emphasising on letting them socialize with each other, and simply accepting me as the guy with food, who they will tolerate being picked up by.
To this day,I live in the same neighborhood, and I still have that watchful eye out for my friends.I can only hope they are well.
I was compelled to share this story, take what lessons you will from it.But I want to wish you luck in finding your Iggs,or accepting new ones into your home.I feel for you.
Iguanas are wonderful creatures,and friends.
