We got ours at a hardware store that caters toward farmers/ranchers. Maybe a feed store or something in your area? Home Depot? Some people call them welder's gloves. They are heavy duty leather gloves.
I know that there are those that think they shouldn't be used. I use them under certain circumstances where I know from past experience that I'm going to get clawed if I don't. It is true that you can't feel how tight you may be holding them so I can't recommend their use until you've gotten some experience in handling so that you can "feel" that you have a good grip without being tight even with gloves on. Gloves are good for wearing to try to get the iguana used to your hand being near them if they are prone to bite and ask questions later *grin* Sometimes my female gets in a rotten mood and will try to bite if I'm just putting her food down. Then I'll put the glove on that hand to put the food in. They aren't something to be used ALL THE TIME.
I have to agree with what others are saying....go slow. It's not going to happen overnight. If it were me, I'd not even try to touch for at least a week if not two under the circumstances this iguana came to you.
You might like to read thru another place (Oh NO not another *grin*). It's a site of another forum regular. She goes into step by step detail on taming. Maybe it would help you to adjust your expectations to know that it can take up to a year to tame/socialize an iguana...and this is one that has not been traumatized. It CAN be done. Let time be your friend not your enemy.
