: : : Hi - I just got my baby ig last Thurs. I checked him over at the pet store and saw no sign of mites. Today I lifted out his log to clean it, and on the rock slab underneath, I saw several teeny mite-like creatures - they looked like the spider mites I've seen on plants. Are these reptile mites? Shouldn't I be seeing them on the ig, if they are (I've looked a lot)? Do people recommend treatment for mites for a very young ig (about a month, they said at the store - he's about 2-3" SNV, and seems a little skinny, but I'm not sure if that's normal when they're this young). He is eating and pooping fine. Thanks in advance for anything you can tell me!
: : yep grover has mites alright and you need to take care of then fast, igaunas wil die from mites,
: : i am not formeliar with the american product against mites, but i advice you to ask a vet for a good product,
: : bare in mind that the anti mite product should not leave any traces on surfaces
: : (evaporete completely) and be shore to air the cage long enough.
: : in the mean time wash youre igauna with a mild soap this wil kill the mites on youre ig,
: : we use water to kill the plantmites(kills ten percent every time) just spay a some water and youlle kill ten percent
: : you could also ( i suspect) use a little soapy water, but this will mean you have to clean the cage for soap.
: : i use a vapone anti fly box this wil also kill the mites , but be carefull that
: : you dont let the box opwen fot too long (depending on youre cage size no more then 8 hours )
: : but i would check youre vet for that since i dont know any american products ...
: : but dont wait to long !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
: : Dark.
: Hi Karen,
: Yes it is possible the mites are the blood sucking type. I had this with my ig's when I first got them, Iguess their must have been eggs on your Iguana, even though you didn't see mites. I found the mites were on the cage furnishing mostly, I had a hard time seeing any on the Iguana. These are no fun to get rid of but easier than getting rid of Coccidia. I'll E-mail you later.
yes, it's very possable just get some mite killer.
