THE NEWS (Portsmouth, UK) 29 September 00 Rescue For Cold, Hungry Iguana
Iggy the iguana was close to death when found in a garden in Bedhampton. But the RSPCA and a local vet have given her a new lease of life.
The 2.5 foot long iguana was found in an emaciated condition in the garden of a house in Priorsdean Crescent.
The householder thought the reptile was dead at first but brought it inside, wrapped it in towel and warmed it with a heat lamp.
It was the second time in the last week that the RSPCA has rescued an iguana in the area. The first was spotted living in a tree in Chaplains Close, Waterlooville, where it was surviving on vegetables provided by residents.
Iggy, thought to be about two years old, is now recovering at the Downland Veterinary Group surgery in Emsworth.
RSPCA inspector Paul Williams said it was not clear whether Iggy had been abandoned because of her poor state or had fallen ill while on the loose.
Vet David Vawer said: 'We have managed to get some fluids in her overnight and she has started to eat a little.'
