I would recommend not putting the probe directly under the basking spot, but use that probe for another location in the cage area so as to have two ranges to read from. I would use a separate thermometer for reading the basking area, once you have that set....it shouldn't change unless you change the wattage of the heating system. But other parts of the cage, due to drafts can change on a day to day bases and this is where the outdoor probe can be used to monitor these levels. The lower area of the cage should be monitored and the upper area.
When using these devices, always make sure the cords are either taped down or tie strapped so that they will not cause the iguana to get caught up in the wiring.
