2 x 2 x 36 would be 2" x 2" openings and the width would be 36". With a roll at some stores, there's an additional number included, which would be the overall length of the roll. Example: 2" x 2" x 36" x 75'
The answer to your other question is: Plastic coated wire or rubber coated wire.
There is also another material that is completely made of plastic and is a mesh material. I have 2 50' rolls I will be using this spring for outdoor cages. Mine came from the midwest area, I can try to find the company for you if you're interested, not sure if they will sell to the public or not.
