Well as a "newbie" to the forum I have certainly been put off :((
I would like to add my comments to the posts here,
Firstly I feel like I sort of caused all this, with my posts to the forum when Draco was taken ill.
I would however just like to point out that I had already taken him to my vet and had blood tests run, my main reason for posting to the forum, was because as someone with veterinary nursing experience I was not happy with the attitude and advice given by the vet I saw, (my regular vet is away)
I have various reference books, Maders Klingenbergs, Hatfields etc. where I could have gotten dosage information for Bayril and many other drugs used by vets, if that had been all I sought.
I would like to think that people who know me, will vouch for me, when I say that whatever vet or person gives me advice I ALWAYS seek advice from others, particularly other iguana owners, as living in the UK our resources here are so much more limited than a lot of places over in the USA.
On that particular day I KNEW my boy was in big trouble and that something was seriously wrong, despite the fact the vet I saw was telling me he was fine and that is was maybe just a cold! I won't apologise for trying to do anything or find out anything that was going to give him a fighting chance.
Draco was my first Ig, and had been badly looked after before I got him within 12 hours of owning him I had emailed MK, Adam Britton and others for advice, that was also the day I found #Iguanas and the IML, since then I have been actively involoved with setting up RAIN UK to form a network of information easily accessible throughout the UK for "newbie" owners and experienced keepers alike. I also run a UK mailing list to help spread the word about correct feeding, husbandry etc.
I feel really upset to think that by posting I caused all this uproar, I apologise, my only intention was to make sure Draco had the best chance of coming through ok, sadly this was not to be.
Personally I think forums like this are such a valuable resource, where ig owners from all walks of life can pool information and experiences, I don't think it was anyones intention to give out advice that they shouldn't, though I can see the argumants about drug information etc. although having said that, I know for a fact that in the UK, drugs such as bayrtil are licensed and can only be dispensed by a vet to a patient that they have held a consultation with.
Anyway, I guess what I'm building up to is, this was the first time i have used Kingsnake, and while I thank everyone fromthe bottom of my heart who helped and advised me, or just emailed me to say they were thinking about Draco and I, I'll go back to lurk mode, keep quiet and stay on my UK list.
I never intened to stir up a fuss, sorry guy's.
Best
