I don't know of any reports but I can offer my experience with Vega$...over 4 years now.
In my previous apartment, she took herself potty to the shower (attached bathroom to bedroom). She also knew her way around the apartment. One time I had a pignic dinner party and she was sitting in the living room; she got fed up with all the igs and people, she strutted outta the living room, down the hallway, back into the bedroom, and curled up to sleep on her basking area.
At my current house, she can take herself potty (if I'm home to open up the bedroom to the rest of the place) to the shower or uses the tarp in the bedroom. When we first moved in, it only took her a couple days to settle into the new digs with climbing ladders and house layout.
When she goes to her sitter's house, she knows exactly where she wants to go, and remembers which door led to where. IOW, big ole Brownie iguana was in the master bedroom. She generally has the same sleeping space (on the couch top under the blankets). However, her last sitting was sorta amusing. She took over Bumpy's house. Poor Bumpy..got booted to another location. Whenever Kim would take her for tubbing, Vega$ would thereafter want to go back to Bumpy's house.
As far as pain...I know that when Vega$ was sick with yolk peritonitis, she was extremely clingy at the time to me. She had her stress colors and didn't like it when her middle was touched; she'd turn her head to me and I'd get the evil eye. She recovered fine thankfully.
Ok...I'm done rambling...
